is it a hat?

I was just remembering how great "the little prince" is...it's really deep and in my mind not at all a children's book.

Has the sheep eaten the flower? And you will see how everything changes... And no grown-up will ever understand that this is a matter of so much importance! This is, to me, the loveliest and saddest landscape in the world...It is here that the little prince appeared on Earth, and disappeared. Look at it carefully so that you will be sure to recognise it in case you travel some day to the African desert. And, if you should come upon this spot, please do not hurry on. Wait for a time, exactly under the star. Then, if a little man appears who laughs, who has golden hair and who refuses to answer questions, you will know who he is. If this should happen, please comfort me. Send me word that he has come back.

yea, i've decided that it's my favorite book

Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Albert Schweitzer

He was an impressive person not only to the poor people he treated in equatorial Africa, but also to the animals he took in, from pelicans to pigs to abandoned baby gorillas.

He believed that our obligation to be ethical should never be abstract. That we should decide what we believe to be right conduct-in his case, a reverence for all life- and that, rather than go through life in a robotic way, we should really live it by being active participants.

He believed that our principles should compel us, even if it means sacrifice and self-discipline, to affect the changes in conduct that we should make and to persuade others to make them too.

In other words, not just to think about things, but to do things that help make the world all the better for our passing through it.

Schweitzer believed that it is only possible to be truly ethical when we obey the compunction to help all life, and to shrink from injuring anything that lives.

He thought it important not to ask how far this or that life deserves one's sympathy by virtue of being valuable or to what degree it suffers.

"I must interpret the life around me as I interpret the life that is my own. My life is full of meaning to me. The life around me must be full of significance to itself. If I am to expect others to respect my life, then i must respect the other life I see, however strange it may be to mine."

i've gained 25 lbs in the past year. holy smokes.

my proctor for the sats was really really dumb. damn her.

sometimes really randomly everything will get really loud and fast. like this keyboard typing is really really loud. but i feel like i need to keep making loud and fast sounds. then suddenly it'll stop. does this happen to anyone else? even my breathing sounds really loud.

the ap french test wasn't nearly as hard as the practice test. although i blanked out during some of the listening. and i didn't realize that they only read the dialogues once each, so during the first one i didn't pay attention because i planned on just paying attention the second time around. so the five questions qui vont avec etait trop difficile a (accent grave) faire. si j'avais entendu le dialogue, j'aurais repondu a les questions. j'espere qu'il ne fasse pas beaucoup de difference. and the test went from 12:30 to 5. LAME. one ap test down, three to go.

time for 24. later gators.

on saturday i watched 'only yesterday' and 'pom poko' by isao takahashi...but executive produced by hayao miyazaki!!! they were pretty good. i watched princess mononoke again today. today was fantastic...i made tabouleh (from leila's recipe). it was good. sometimes my life falls into place and everything is awesome. i think the only miyazaki movie i haven't yet seen is 'whispers of the heart' and it's supposed to play in may on tmc channel. hurray.

i was thinking about what to do this break...i read ender's game and ender's shadow a while back. i need to read the third book of the trilogy, speaker of the dead. i think that's what it's called...so i'll try and get that from the library and read it. but it seems so long ago i was reading about petra and bean and valentine...i don't know if i actually care enough to go back through it.

i was listening to a song by the arcade fire called 'haiti' and didn't understand what she was singing. then i realized it was french. and i still couldn't understand it. 5 years of french really haven't helped me as much as they should have.

x-men 3 looks fantastic. i'm glad shadowcat finally gets a bigger role. although it's lame how all three kitty's have been played by different actresses in all the movies. beast looks really fake though. but i think kelsey grammar will play the part well.

maybe i should finally finish x-men legends too. i'm at the last boss. but he's hard and i keep dying. and i'm way too lazy to go back and level up my heroes. someone want to borrow it and beat it for me so i can watch the end cinematic? ;)

"If you are a poet, you will clearly see that there is a cloud floating in this sheet of paper. Without a cloud, there will be no rain; without rain, the trees cannot grow; and without trees, we cannot make paper. If we look even more deeply, we can see the sunshine, the logger who cut the tree, the wheat that became his bread, and the logger's father and mother. Without all of these things, this sheet of paper cannot exist. In fact, we cannot point to one thing that is not here-time, space, the earth, the rain, the minerals in the soil, the sunshine, the cloud, the river, the heat, the mind. Everything co-exists with this sheet of paper. So we can say that the cloud and the paper 'inter-are.' We cannot just be by ourselves alone, we have to inter-be with every other thing."

A soft wind at dawn
Lifts one dry leaf and lays it
Upon another.

Spring rains weaving
Eccentric brocades
Across the face of the water-
Will they dye all the hills green?

Autumn's height,
The full moon's night is near,
Soon the full moon's glory.
